As we finish up our series, “The State of the Church” I wanted to take a moment to realize that Christ calls us all “Priests” (Rev. 5:10). So many times we look at the pastors, evangelists, missionaries, and teachers within the church and think that it’s the sole duty of people within vocational ministry to fulfill the great commission that Jesus commanded in Matthew 28:18. But the truth is that we are all called to make disciples of Christ. Every follower of Christ has the ability and responsibility to take the gospel (the Good News) to those who don’t have it. We are all called to share the amazing message of Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection.
For some of us that is moving to another country and reaching an ethnic group different than where we have been raised, but for some of us it’s simply talking to that person at work, our neighbor down the road, the guy at the grocery store, and our family member who is living without Christ. As disciples, we are called to make Disciples.
I have a quote hanging in my office by Charles Spurgeon regarding sharing the gospel, that we are called to share the gospel as found in the Bible. When we share the message of Christ, we always need to make sure that we never mix our own thoughts or those of our culture with scripture but that we present the scripture without error as as found in God’s WORD. I pray that this series has been an encouragement to stand up for what God’s Word says, and to be a bold generation for the Kingdom of Christ.
Shalom!

“We have a faith to preach, my brethren, and we are sent forth with a message from God. We are not left to fabricate the message as we go along. We are not sent forth by our Master with this kind of general commission – ‘As you shall think in your heart and invent in your head as you march on, so preach. Keep abreast of the times. Whatever the people want to hear, tell them that, and they shall be saved.’ Verily, we read not so. There is something definite in the Bible. We ought to preach the gospel, not as our views at all, but as the mind of God-the testimony of Jehovah concerning his own Son, and in reference to salvation for lost men. If we had been entrusted with the making of the gospel, we might have altered it to suit the taste of this modest century, but never having been employed to originate the good news, but merely to repeat it, we dare not stir beyond the record. What we have been taught of God we teach. If we do not do this, we are not fit for our position.â€

Good word Brent – especially the quote at the end. When you say you hope we find ‘encouragement’ in this I think you used a good word. To expound, I know that I personally have found myself challenged to research more behind the ideas and ideals that I hear people talking about… challenged also to know what I believe and WHY I believe it. I also like what Pastor Duane said in church Sunday night, ‘who said Christianity would be convenient’ as well as this morning when he said ‘orthopraxy is doing what’s right WITH what you believe’. Christianity is not something to use to get into heaven, or to use as a tool or as a means to accomplish something. It is rather a lifestyle, a calling to live a life devoted to our God and HIS will, HIS truth, and HIS love.
